Sign PDF
Add your signature to a PDF without printing it: draw it with your mouse or finger, type your name, or use a photo of your real signature. Place it on any page, add your initials, the date or a line of text, and download the signed PDF. Your document never leaves your device.
Your files are processed in your browser and never leave your device.
How to use Sign PDF
- Click "Select PDF file" and choose the PDF to sign.
- Click "Signature" and draw, type or upload your signature, then click "Use signature".
- Drag the signature to the right place on the page and resize it with its corner handle. Add initials, the date or text the same way.
- Click "Save signed PDF" and download it.
How to add a signature to a PDF for free
Choose your PDF and scroll to the page that needs signing. Click "Signature" and pick a way to make it: draw it, type your name in a handwriting style, or upload a photo of your signature on white paper (the paper is removed automatically, so only the ink is placed). The signature appears on the page you're looking at; drag it onto the signature line and make it the right size.
Contracts often need the date and initials too. "Date" adds today's date, which you can edit, and "Initials" works like the signature, with a button to add your initials to every page at once.
How to sign a PDF on your phone
Open the PDF on your iPhone or Android phone, tap "Signature" and sign with your finger in the drawing box. Then drag the signature into place with your finger and use the corner handle to resize it. The signed PDF is saved to your Downloads or Files app, ready to send.
What if your signature doesn't look right?
Each way of making a signature has its strengths. If the result isn't right, try another.
- A drawn signature looks shaky with a mouse or trackpad: type your name instead, or upload a photo of your signature on paper.
- An uploaded signature isn't found: use a clear photo of dark ink on plain white paper, taken in good light.
- A date or text box shows an error: these boxes use a standard PDF font, which supports Latin letters, numbers and common symbols.
- The PDF is password-protected: remove the password with Unlock PDF first, then sign.
Frequently asked questions
Is my document or signature uploaded anywhere?
No. The PDF is signed inside your web browser, on your own computer or phone. Neither the document nor your signature is sent to us or anyone else, and your signature isn't saved: it's gone when you close the page.
Is Sign PDF free?
Yes. It is free, with no sign-up, no watermark and no limit on the number of documents or signatures.
Is this a legally valid signature?
It is a simple electronic signature: an image of your signature placed on the document. Most everyday documents accept this, such as forms, letters, rental and employment paperwork. Some legal or official documents require a certificate-based digital signature from an approved provider, which this tool doesn't create. If you are unsure, ask whoever requested the signature.
Can I use a photo of my real signature?
Yes. Choose "Upload" and pick a clear photo of your signature in dark ink on plain white paper. The paper is removed automatically, so only your signature appears on the page, without a white box around it. Open Signature resizer
Can I add my initials to every page?
Yes. Create your initials with the "Initials" button, then click "Initials on every page". They are placed in the bottom corner of each page, and you can move any of them.
Will the rest of my PDF change?
No. Your signature, initials, date and text are added on top of the pages. Everything else stays exactly as it was, and the original text can still be selected and searched.
Can I type in other languages?
Typed signatures and the drawing pad work with any language. Date and text boxes use a standard PDF font, which supports Latin letters (English and most European languages), numbers and common symbols.
Does it work with password-protected PDFs?
Not while they are protected. PDFs that need a password to open, or that are locked against editing, can't be signed here. If you know the password, or the document is yours and only blocks editing, remove the protection with Unlock PDF first, then sign the unlocked copy. Open Unlock PDF
