Watermark PDF
Mark a PDF as CONFIDENTIAL, DRAFT or COPY, or add your company logo to every page. Choose the text or picture, how see-through it is, where it goes or whether it repeats across the page, and check the preview before saving. Your document stays on your device.
Your files are processed in your browser and never leave your device.
How to use Watermark PDF
- Click "Select PDF file" and choose your PDF.
- Type the watermark text (or pick CONFIDENTIAL, DRAFT and others), or choose "Image or logo" and select a picture.
- Choose once or tiled, the position, angle, size, opacity and whether it goes on top of the page or behind the content. The preview updates as you go.
- Click "Add watermark" and download your PDF.
How to add a text watermark to a PDF
Type your text or pick a common one: CONFIDENTIAL, DRAFT, COPY, SAMPLE or DO NOT COPY. Diagonal, centred and see-through is the classic look; "Tiled across the page" repeats the text all over each page, which is much harder to crop or cover. The watermark is written as sharp text, so it prints cleanly at any size.
For documents you share, an opacity around 20 to 30% keeps the page readable while making the watermark obvious. Choose "Behind content" to keep every word of the original text fully dark and readable.
How to add a logo or image watermark to a PDF
Choose "Image or logo" and select a PNG, JPG, WebP or iPhone HEIC picture. A PNG with a transparent background looks best, because only the logo itself appears on the page, not a white box around it. Use the size and opacity settings to keep it subtle, and pick a corner if you don't want it in the middle of the page.
What if the watermark can't be seen?
The preview shows the watermark on the first chosen page. If it is missing or too faint, check these.
- With "Behind content" on a scanned page: the scan covers the watermark. Choose "On top" instead.
- It is too faint: move the opacity slider higher.
- Your logo has a white box around it: use a PNG with a transparent background.
- The text shows an error: the standard PDF font supports Latin letters, numbers and common symbols.
Frequently asked questions
Is my PDF uploaded to a server?
No. The watermark is added inside your web browser, on your own computer or phone. Your PDF and your logo are never sent to us or anyone else.
Is Watermark PDF free?
Yes. It is free, with no sign-up and no limit on the number of PDFs. We never add our own watermark.
Can someone remove the watermark?
A watermark makes copying and misuse obvious, but it isn't protection: someone with PDF editing software and enough effort can remove it. A tiled watermark is much harder to remove or crop out than a single one. To stop people opening a file, a password is the right tool.
Can the watermark go behind the text?
Yes. Choose "Behind content" and the page's own text and pictures are drawn over the watermark, so everything stays fully readable. On scanned pages, the scan is one big picture covering the whole page, so a watermark behind it can't be seen; use "On top" for scans.
Can I watermark only some pages?
Yes. Choose "Choose pages" and type the pages, for example 1 for the first page only, or 2-10 to leave out a cover page.
How do I make the watermark see-through?
Use the opacity slider. 100% is solid; around 20 to 30% gives the usual faint watermark that you can read through. The preview shows the result before you save.
Will the watermark lower the quality of my PDF?
No. The watermark is added on top of (or behind) the pages. Nothing else is redrawn or compressed, and the original text can still be selected and searched.
Can I watermark a PDF on my phone?
Yes. It works in Safari and Chrome on iPhone and Android. The preview appears below the settings, and the watermarked PDF is saved to your Downloads or Files app.
