Compress image to 20–50KB

Some forms reject photos that are too small as well as too large, asking for a file between 20 KB and 50 KB. PDFHive keeps your image inside that range, at the best quality the range allows.

Your files are processed in your browser and never leave your device.

How to use Compress image to 20–50KB

  1. Select your photo. The range is already set: at least 20 KB, smaller than 50 KB.
  2. Click "Compress image" and check the size is inside the range.
  3. Download the JPG and upload it.
  4. If it can't reach 20 KB, use the original full-size photo rather than a small copy.

Why some forms ask for a photo between 20 KB and 50 KB

The maximum keeps uploads quick; the minimum stops photos that are so small or compressed they become unclear. A file under 20 KB is often rejected even though it is "small enough".

PDFHive aims just under 50 KB for the best quality. If your image would come out under 20 KB, it raises the quality to reach the minimum. Only a very small original can fail to reach it, and then PDFHive tells you.

What if the photo comes out under 20 KB?

Reaching a minimum size is sometimes harder than staying under a maximum. A small or very plain picture can't reach 20 KB even at the best quality.

  1. Use the original full-size photo, not a small copy or a thumbnail.
  2. If the form gives a pixel size, use Resize image: set that size and the 20–50 KB range together.
  3. For a signature with lots of white space, a larger size in pixels makes the file bigger.

Frequently asked questions

Why does the form need at least 20 KB?

A very small file usually means a tiny or heavily compressed photo that officials can't check properly. The minimum makes sure the photo is clear enough.

My photo is already under 20 KB. What can I do?

Use it here anyway: PDFHive raises the quality to bring it above 20 KB. If it still can't get there, the original is too small, so use a larger version of the photo, such as the one straight from your camera.

Can I use a different range, such as 10 to 30 KB?

Yes. Change the two numbers before you compress. The minimum must be smaller than the maximum.

How do I know the file is inside the range?

The exact size is shown under the preview, with a message confirming it is between the minimum and the maximum. Sizes count 1 KB as 1,000 bytes, so the file also passes forms that count 1,024.

Does it work on my phone?

Yes. Pick the photo from your gallery, and the JPG is saved to your phone ready to upload.
