Compress image to 100KB

100 KB leaves room for a sharp photo or a readable photo of a document. It suits university and job applications and supporting documents that must stay under 100 KB.

Your files are processed in your browser and never leave your device.

How to use Compress image to 100KB

  1. Select the image. The limit is set to 100 KB.
  2. Click "Compress image" and check that the details or text are still easy to see.
  3. Download the JPG.
  4. If small text is hard to read, crop the photo to the document and compress again.

Compress a photo of a document to 100 KB

At 100 KB a photo can be about 900 pixels wide, enough for printed text on a single page to stay readable. Take the photo straight on, in good light, and crop away the table or background around the page.

For a document of several pages, or one you already have as a PDF, use Compress PDF to 100KB instead, which keeps the pages together in one file.

What if a photo of a document isn't readable at 100 KB?

Small text needs the most help. If the compressed photo is hard to read, improve the picture before compressing.

  1. Photograph the document flat, in good light, filling the frame, so the text is as large as possible in the picture.
  2. Crop away the table or background around the page with Crop image.
  3. If the form accepts PDF, turn the photo into a PDF with JPG to PDF, then use Compress PDF: its Black and white setting keeps text crisp in very small files.

Frequently asked questions

How sharp will my image be at 100 KB?

In our tests, a full phone photo came to about 900 × 680 pixels at 100 KB: sharp on screen and fine for most forms. Smaller originals keep even more of their quality.

Can I compress a photo of a document to 100 KB?

Yes. Crop it to the page first so no space is wasted on the background. Text usually stays readable at this size.

My image is already under 100 KB. What happens?

PDFHive still saves a clean JPG at the best quality that fits under 100 KB, without location or camera details. If the original is fine for your form, you can simply use it.

Is 100 KB enough for a passport-style photo?

Plenty. Most forms that accept 100 KB get a sharp, detailed face. If the form also gives an exact size in pixels, crop the photo to that shape first.

Can I do this on my phone?

Yes. It works in your phone's browser and saves the JPG to your Downloads or Files app.
