Compress image to 50KB
A 50 KB limit is common for photos on online applications. That is enough for a clear, recognisable face, and PDFHive keeps as much detail as will fit.
Your files are processed in your browser and never leave your device.
How to use Compress image to 50KB
- Choose your photo. The 50 KB limit is already filled in.
- Click "Compress image" and look at the preview to check the face is clear.
- Download the JPG and add it to your application.
- Still not happy with the sharpness? Crop away the background and try again.
How to reduce an image to 50 KB for an online form
A photo straight from a phone is usually 2 to 5 MB, a hundred times too big. PDFHive lowers the JPG quality slightly and, if needed, makes the picture smaller in pixels. In our tests a full 4000 × 3000 phone photo came to 49 KB at about 660 × 500 pixels.
For an ID-style photo, crop to your head and shoulders first. The face then fills more of the picture and stays sharper at the same 50 KB.
How to keep a photo sharp under 50 KB
At 50 KB a face photo can look good, as long as the space goes to the parts that matter.
- Crop away background with Crop image before compressing, so the 50 KB is spent on your face, not the wall behind you.
- Start from the original photo, not a screenshot or a copy sent through a messaging app, which has already lost detail.
- If the form gives a pixel size, resize to it with Resize image: a smaller picture looks sharper at the same KB.
Frequently asked questions
Will my photo still be clear at 50 KB?
Yes, for most photos. At 50 KB a full photo is about 660 pixels wide, which looks sharp on screen, and a cropped head-and-shoulders photo looks even better. Check the preview before you download.
My form says "maximum 50 KB". Will my file be accepted?
Yes. PDFHive aims for under 50,000 bytes, which passes whether the form counts a kilobyte as 1,000 or 1,024 bytes.
Should I crop my photo before compressing?
If the form wants a face or ID-style photo, yes. Cropping removes background the form doesn't need, so the 50 KB is spent on your face.
Can I use a screenshot or PNG?
Yes. PNG and WebP images are accepted and saved as JPG, which is the format almost every form expects.
Does it work on my phone?
Yes. Pick the photo from your gallery, compress it in your browser, and the JPG is saved to your phone ready to upload.
